Naturally Alpacas

Steve and Christine Hart purchased their first 5 Huacaya alpacas in 2002 with only 2 ½ acres of land. And have been expanding ever since. Now their herd size ranges around the 90 mark, on a 50 acre farm near the beautiful Bay of Islands, with an emphasis on fibre – in the wide range of natural colours available.  They also have a small fold of miniature Highland cattle (no pun intended), which along with the alpaca are ideal lifestyle block animals.

Alpacas are native to South America, but are now successfully farmed all over the world for their high quality fleece.

The alpaca fibre is what first attracted Christine to these wonderful animals and she now utilises their fibre in her felting, spinning, knitting, dyeing and albeit in a small way still – weaving.  “Our core business is fibre based, using the best fibre we can produce to create unique alpaca products for sale in our on farm shop”.
